Ordinary life is pretty complex stuff

American SplendorI went and saw American Splendor with Dave on saturday afternoon. It was at the Screening Room downtown. For those that haven’t been, it’s akin to watching something on a really big television, but lower quality. The theatre has an endearing quality to it though.

I saw the trailer for the movie a few days ago and decided that I wanted to see it when it came out. Coincidentally, it showed up at the Screening Room last weekend. The movie is about the life of Harvey Pekar, in a pseudo-documentary/biography sort of way. There was a bunch of different techniques used to give it a more authentic feel, mainly some white screen things while the real Harvey is narrating the movie. Basically, he creates a comic book series based on his life and illustrated by his friend Robert Crumb. It was a little bit different than I expected, but I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. I recommend going to see it.
